The donation project teaches kids “kindness and compassion for others,” said Angella Hart, director of the New Port Richey center.
The project started the last week of 2012 and will continue for a couple weeks, Hart said.

The effort is part of a company initiative called Diane’s Devotion. It is named that in memory of Diane Clark, co-founder of Discovery Point. Clark was a high school teacher for 18 years and spent another 24 building the Discovery Center business with husband Cliff.
Clark died this past October, Hart said. This is the first Diane’s Devotion effort, and Discovery Point hopes to make this a yearly occurrence.
“Diane was praised on many fronts. What excited her most was impacting children, inspiring them to dream and giving them the tools to succeed,” a press release stated. “With this year’s first annual Diane’s Devotion, the very basic of children’s needs will be met — something she would have wanted.”
Donations can be dropped off at Discovery Point, 8700 Trouble Creek Road, on week days from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
