Dog Stranded On Mangrove Island In Oyster Creek Rescued By Deputies

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — No one knows how she came to be trapped on a mangrove island in Oyster Creek. But it was clear she needed help, and the Pasco County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit was just the team to deliver it.

According to the sheriff's office, a resident called alerting deputies that a black female pitbull-Labrador mix was tangled in the mangroves and unable to get herself free. Since there was no solid ground to stand on, the dog had managed to crawl up some mangrove branches where she stood helplessly, waiting for help.

Using the sheriff's office's airboat, deputies were able to reach and grab the dog, safely getting her into the airboat and taking her back to land near Green Key Park where she was picked up by Pasco County Animal Services.
