'Driven And Passionate': Hernando County Girl Honored As Star Student

Patch and T-Mobile are partnering to celebrate local "Star Students" who succeed in Florida classrooms and their communities.

SPRING HILL, FL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

How do you know the star local student?

I am the students match support specialist with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Amaya is a part of our program as a Big Sister.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Amaya has proven to be driven and passionate with her role as a Big Sister. Throughout her match she has been able to develop a strong, positive, mentor relationship with a youth in the community. She has helped her Little Sister improve academically and socially with frequent, quality one-on-one time spent together.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Amaya is very involved in the community and she is passionate about giving back. She is in the National Honor Society and enjoys volunteering.
