Eagles Nest, Bird Watching At Salt Springs Park

View a eagles nest with two baby birds during this hike organized by the Salt Springs Alliance.

Get a good view of a American Bald Eagle or a gander at a Roseate Spoonbill. These birds and more will be the focal point of an upcoming hike at the Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park.

The hike, organized by the Salt Springs Alliance, will provide hikers with a guided tour at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

The tour will highlight the new front entrance of the park at 8737 US Highway 19 North in Port Richey.

Hikers are encouraged to bring binoculars, cameras, and insect repellent.

"We will also explore one of the other new trails in the park," an e-mail about the hike stated. "Your leaders for this interpretive hike will be able to answer any questions you might have about our resident eagles and other birds found in the park."

In addition to the eagles, wood storks, brown pelicans and seabirds also call the park home and may be visible on the hike, said Ed Caum, a spokesman for Pasco County.

The Salt Springs Alliance is the citizens support organization for the park. The group offers events throughout the year including kayak outings and educational talk, Caum said.

The hike fee will be $5, and a $3 per car fee will be charged at the park. To make a reservation for the hike go here.
