Estela’s is a Tampa-based chain of Mexican restaurants. The U.S. 19 location opened five years ago. Owner Shawn Garvey took the reins of the restaurant a year and a half ago. He runs it with wife Alisha and adult daughter Mia.

“I want it to be a destination for people,” said Shawn Garvey.

Garvey says Estela’s rented the U.S. 19 location. The building was sold recently.

It was decided Estela’s would move downtown to Main Street. Garvey said that other locations had been looked at, but the owners decided on the New Port Richey Main Street location. That space was formerly home to Juan’s Black Bean Café.

“We wanted to stay in the community,” said Alisha Garvey.

Shawn Garvey also said their customers wanted to see them stick around.

“They didn’t want to see us go,” he said.

The Garveys live in Elfers and are already involved in the community. Shawn has three younger children: Michael, Mattox and Mackayla. Michael plays on the Pasco Prowlers football team, and Shawn coaches it.

Shawn Garvey and Alisha Garvey are originally from Arizona. Shawn used to own a trucking company, and that brought him to Florida. He got involved with Estela’s after meeting the chain owners.

Shawn says his Estela’s restaurant brings to downtown a good brand and a good customer base. Estela’s has a family friendly atmosphere.

Shawn says the new location puts Estela’s closer to community events and he likes being in the historic area. He said he aware that the city is trying to revitalize the area.

“I just wanted to be part of the downtown,” he said “It was my chance to get in before stuff happened.”
