FL Woman Accused Of FEMA Fraud After Hurricane Idalia
A New Port Richey woman is accused of filing false information when seeking FEMA assistance after Hurricane Idalia, the U.S. DOJ said.
NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A New Port Richey woman was accused of fraud in connection with a major disaster or emergency benefits, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
Shelby Sigler, 34, faces up to 30 years in federal prison if she’s convicted.
Between November 2023 and January 2024, she knowingly made false and fraudulent statements and representations to get money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, her indictment said.

After Hurricane Idalia hit Florida, Sigler used false information when submitting an application for assistance from FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program, according to the indictment.
