Five Things You Should Know Today (And One Extra)

Lots of things to do today in West Pasco.

1. There's a 40 percent chance we could see rain after 2 p.m. today in New Port Richey, the National Weather Service predicts.  Otherwise, it will be partly sunny, with temperatures reaching a high near 84.

2   Lance Cpl. , a U.S. Marine whose legs were amputated after he was caught in an explosion in Afghanistan, is coming home to Trinity on Saturday after a long recovery at Walter Reed Medical Center's campus in Washington, D.C. Welcome him back from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.  His return route will travel from State Road 54 onto Trinity Blvd, turn right on Little, turn left on Mitchell turn right on Seven Springs and end at VFW post 7987 at 7445 Chester McKay Dr. Participants should get to their spots by 3:30 p.m. Find more info at the Justin Gaertner Homecoming Facebook page here.

4.     The Blueberry Jerry Jamboree, Pasco's first blueberry festival, will be held tomorrow. It takes place at the Pasco Safety Town Entrance, between Suncoast Parkway and Hays Road on State Road 52, in Spring Hill, about eight miles east of U.S. Highway 19. Find out more about it

5.   You can join the Friends of Rupert Road Cleanup today.  The cleanup, organized bynewly published author Kyrja,  concentrates on a 2.3-mile stretch of Rowan Road between Massachusetts Avenue and Trouble Creek Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parking will be at the Walgreen's at 7020 Massachusetts Ave.

6.      Fundraiser alert: Kristen Wegner, a New Port Richey teenager, has planned a vegan bake sale on Saturday at the West Pasco Habitat for Humanity ReStore (4131 Grand Boulevard, New Port Richey). The proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army to aid victims of the recent tornadoes that ravaged the Southern United States. The sale will last from 9:30 a.m.- 2 p.m
