Letter to the Editor: Have you Seen this Car?

Now here's Al to tell us what he is looking for.
 

I'm hoping you can help me! I'm in San Diego, California, and am trying to locate a long-lost 1976 VW Super Beetle convertible that was sold to someone in New Port Richey a few years ago.

Here's the story..... My wife Deanne and I restored the car, drove it for a few years, then sold it to her dad, Dewey Short (the rec center in MacDill was recently renamed after him) who lived in Riverview FL. 

He drove it a couple years then sold it to someone in New Port Richey. He has since passed away.   

Getting that car back would be an incredible birthday gift for my wife's birthday (she'll kill me if her age gets publicized!) in April 2013....so I have a little over a year to see if I can make this happen.

I was told that the person who bought the car saw it on base at the MacDill "lemon lot" and bought it for his wife, a school teacher there in New Port Richey. The car is an off-white, "pearlized" color, and I can provide the VIN if necessary.  So, what do you think? Can you help me? Thanks so much!...al.
