Man Charged with Murder in Holiday Shooting

Jason Chevere shot his stepfather in the chest, deputies say.

The man accused of shooting his stepfather to death Aug. 1 has been charged with first-degree murder.

Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 20-year-old Jason Chevere when he returned to his home at 5645 Mosaic Road in Holiday after the shooting.

The incident started when the stepfather, Dale Wildermuth, and Chevere got into an argument, according to an arrest report. Wildermuth grabbed and pushed Chevere and told him to get out of the house.

Chevere went to his room, locked his door and got a semi-automatic handgun from under his mattress.

He left the room and fired at his stepfather. Wildermuth was hit in the chest and died at the scene.

Chevere fled the home on foot but later returned. He was taken into custody and booked into the Land O’ Lakes jail, where he remained Aug. 2.
