Man in Custody After Shooting at Deputy
A New Port Richey area man who was believed to be suicidal and a deputy exchanged fire early Monday morning.

A New Port Richey area man was arrested early Monday morning after exchanging fire with a deputy, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies went out to 7917 Royal Stewart Drive in the unincorporated New Poort Richey area in reference to a man who was believed to be suicidal, according to a press release. The deputies believed the man had a high-powered rifle, handgun and a cache of ammo.
The man ran to a neighboring house at 7911 Royal Stewart Drive, according to a release, and the residents there fled.

While deputies were clearing the house, the man shot at one of them, according to the release.
The deputy returned fire and the man surrendered, according to the release. Neither the man nor the deputy were injured, according to the release.

The man was taken into custody, but his identity and charges have not been released. The scene was still under investigatoion Monday.
