Man Rampaged After Watching Mayweather Fight: Deputies

A Holiday man is accused in a series of Sunday morning knife attacks that ended when a Pasco County deputy used a taser.

HOLIDAY, FL — A Holiday man faces a long list of criminal charges after Pasco County deputies say he went on a knife-wielding rampage after watching the Mayweather, McGregor boxing match during a house party that lasted until the wee hours of Sunday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jonathan R. Wolfenbarger’s rampage began around 2 a.m. Aug. 27 at a house in the 3000 block of Roxbury Drive. Deputies say Wolfenbarger and a 23-year-old man got into a fight that took a violent turn when Wolfenbarger allegedly pulled out a 3-inch lock blade knife and slashed the victim’s head and shoulder.

While the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Wolfenbarger, 31, is accused of running up to a Lincoln Navigator that was stopped at the Alternate 19/U.S. 19 intersection. Deputies say he began pounding on the Navigator’s hood, pulled out the 3-inch lock blade and stabbed the rear tail light, threatened to stab the driver and his son and then took off again. The driver of the Navigator called 911.

Deputies caught up with Wolfenbarger a few minutes later in the Metropolitan Ministries parking lot at U.S. 19 and Eastwood Drive. Wolfenbarger is accused of brandishing a knife at deputies and refusing commands to drop the weapon. He then allegedly threw the knife at another deputy, who had arrived on the scene. The toss missed the deputy, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies had to use a taser on Wolfenbarger to bring him into custody, the email noted. After receiving medical clearance, he was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail on aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault and criminal mischief charges.

Wolfenbarger remained in the Land O’ Lakes Jail on Monday in lieu of $30,150 bond, jail records indicate.
