New Port Richey, Pasco Under Flood Watch

Pasco County could see flooding over the next day and a half.

New Port Richey and the rest of Pasco County are now under a flood watch, officials say.

An email from Pasco County spokesman Ed Caum says the National Weather Service in Ruskin has forecast that Pasco County could see heavy rainfall through tonight, July 3. We could see another inch of rainfall today.

A flood watch means flooding is possible within the next day and a half. Residents in flood-prone areas are asked to take precautions.

Today’s heavy rainfall adds water to areas already saturated by rain this week.

“The recent heavy rainfall has also saturated the soil in some areas and could provide an increased risk of flooding if the rain storms were to train over those areas,” Caum’s email reads. “Additionally, a wave of energy pushing onshore today will help elevate the coastal waters, bays, harbors and inlets which will make drainage of lower-lying coastal areas more difficult.”
