Pasco County To Collect Household Hazardous, Electronic Waste

This is the first time in five years Dade City will play host to a mobile waste collection event.

DADE CITY, FL – Pasco County residents who are looking to get rid of outdated electronics, old paint cans and other environmental hazards will have a chance to get them off their hands this weekend.

Pasco County Utilities will host a household hazardous waste and electronics collection event for county residents Saturday, March 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pasco High School Stadium, 36850 State Road 52 in Dade City. The entrance to the event will be on Stadium Drive on the north side of the school.

This will be the first mobile household hazardous waste and electronics collection event in Dade City in five years.

“This is a great time for our seasonal and permanent residents to do some spring cleaning and gather up old paint, chemicals, car fluid and batteries,” said Pasco County Utilities Compliance Inspector Alicia Hacker. “Many people don’t realize that things like television sets and old electronics contain hazardous materials. Keeping these items out of the solid waste stream is pivotal and this collection event is a convenient, inexpensive way to properly dispose of them.”

  • Household chemicals and cleaners
  • Fertilizers
  • Fungicides
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Paints
  • Paint thinner and remover
  • Solvents
  • Automotive fluids
  • Wood Preservatives
  • Used motor oil
  • Pool chemicals
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Household batteries
  • CFLs
  • Fluorescent bulbs
  • Household electronics
  • Cell phones

There is a $5 charge for each television, computer monitor, computer tower and/or laptop. There’s also a $10 charge for each television 36 inches and larger, and a $3 charge for gas or propane cylinders.

As part of the event Covanta Environmental Solutions will provide a $5 Publix gift card for the first 50 participants who bring in a mercury-containing thermometer or thermostat. The gift card is limited to one per vehicle.
