Pasco-Hernando State Receives Grant For Workforce Education

The $178,000 grant will ensure more students get into a career quickly after receiving training from experts in their field.

PASCO COUNTY, FL - Pasco-Hernando State College is a recipient of the Pathways to Career Opportunities grant from the Florida Department of Education.

The grant is $178,292 and will be used to further workforce programs and ensure more students get into a career quickly after receiving training from experts in their field.

According to PHSC president Dr. Timothy Beard, "PHSC, along with our educational partners in the Florida College System, remain focused and committed to producing a skilled workforce that will transform the landscape of our communities and state. This important funding will assist the educational team at PHSC to achieve this goal."

The grant program, created in 2019, hands institutions state funds for apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

PHSC will allocate the funds to apprenticeship training and workforce education.

Dr. Stanley Giannet, executive vice president, chief academic officer and college provost, is anticipating a substantial impact on the lives of our students and the job market.

"This generous funding opportunity will further PHSC's emphasis on expanding our multiple credentials and methods of delivering the very best in workforce education - from technical certificates to baccalaureates. The addition of robust apprenticeship opportunities will expand our menu of choices for students and directly support our district and regional business and industry community."

With the funds awarded, PHSC plans to expand its Apartment Maintenance Technician apprenticeship opportunity to Hernando County.

The college also plans to develop a new apprenticeship program in construction, which will include partnerships with Hernando County businesses.

The grant was received this week, which is also National Apprenticeship Week, and will be applied to PHSC's growing workforce programs.
