Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By 3 Vehicles On U.S. 19

The pedestrian was crossing the highway westbound, just south of Saltwater Boulevard.

PORT RICHEY - A 56-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by three cars on U.S. 19 Saturday night, Florida Highway Patrol reported. The pedestrian was identified as Stephen Matava, Jr. of New Port Richey.

Matava was crossing the highway westbound, just south of Saltwater Boulevard, according to FHP. A gray Hyundai driving north in the inside lane hit the man and sped off about 10:30 a.m., the FHP reported.

A Toyota Tundra driven by Christian Wheat, 26, of Hudson and a Ford Explorer driven by Cherie Leger, 58, of Hudson hit him after the initial hit-and run crash. None of the drivers were injured.

FHP is searching for the gray Hyundai in the hit-and-run crash. The vehicle has front-end damage and is missing its left outside mirror and headlight, FHP said.
