PHSC Student Heads to NASA on Scholarship

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL - PHSC student Desirae Binney, 19, of Hudson, FL. recently received a scholarship to participate in a five-week online course offered by the NCAS (NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars) and was invited to attend a hands-on workshop at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Kennedy Space Center in Port Canaveral.
During the online course, Binney planned a robotic rover mission to Mars, learning more about NASA during the process, and looks forward to the workshop, to be held October 24-26. “At the workshop I will get hands-on experience and develop my problem-solving skills as a team member,” said Binney. “I’m very excited about this amazing opportunity.”

After completing pre-requisites to enter the dental assisting program at PHSC, Binney began exploring other career options when she learned about the NCSA program. Her plans include completing her associate in arts degree, with an emphasis on STEM courses, at PHSC next spring followed by studying aerospace engineering or astrophysics at the university level.
