Wendell Krinn Tech High Named National Demonstration Magnet School

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — Pasco County's Wendell Krinn Technical High School has been awarded the designation of National Demonstration School by Magnet Schools of America.

This rare distinction means the school has met MSA standards at the highest levels and can now serve as a model for schools around the nation interested in establishing successful magnet schools and magnet programs.

The announcement came Thursday at the annual Magnet Schools of America Conference, this year being held in Dallas.

The A-rated school at 7650 Orchid Lake Road in New Port Richey offers technical programs that prepare students for college and careers in the fields of biomedical science, cybersecurity, automotive maintenance, culinary arts, welding and robotics, among others. Some “KTech” graduates move on to college, while others enter the workforce, often in high-paying jobs for which they are fully prepared.

“This says a lot about the high level of the programs and instruction we offer our students,” said Krinn Principal Chris Dunning, who accepted the award Thursday at the MSA conference. “It is truly a collaborative effort involving all the teachers, staff and administrators at KTech and at Marchman Technical College.” Some Marchman instructors teach KTech students.

The MSA conference continues through Saturday, with some Pasco County schools and programs presenting during break-out sessions. Pasco County Schools continues to expand parental choice by establishing new magnet schools and specialized magnet programs throughout the county.
