Woman Charged with Stealing $900 in Goods from Walmart

Tanya Loy, 27, of Palm Harbor, was also charged with having illegal prescription drugs on her at the time of the arrest.

A Palm Harbor woman has been charged with grand theft after she allegedly tried to steal more than $900 worth of merchandise from a U.S. 19 Walmart on Feb. 20. 

Tanya Loy, 27, was seen by store managers at the Walmart at 35405 U.S. 19 around 11 p.m. removing merchandise from the shelves and hiding the items inside a stolen purse. 

According to the arrest affidavit, Loy then stole empty Walmart bags from a register and went inside the women's bathroom to put the stolen merchandise into the Walmart bags.

Deputies said Loy then fled the store with the bags filled with stolen items. 

Once outside the store, she was stopped by Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputies and admitted to stealing the merchandise, which Walmart said was worth $906.66.

During their pat down search of Loy, deputies found four pills of the illegally obtained prescription drug clonazepam. 

Loy has been charged with grand theft, possession of clonazepam and trespassing. She was released from jail after posting $2,250 bond.
