2. Sarasota's City Commission has a busy day today at its meeting. Among the expected highlights: the , a Parking Garage and a circus-themed playground at Payne Park.

3. Sarasota County officials are putting their support behind using a pre-trial release alternative to bail bonding for certain offenders because of the expense of bonding for those offenders and the expense to the county. To supervise an offender, it would cost $3.20 a day instead of $71 for a jail cell.

5. Sarasota Housing Authority and other officials celebrated both the completion of Janie's Garden Phase II in Newtown and the beginning of demolishing Mediterranean Apartments down the street. One apartment is already occupied at Janie's Garden and the city is looking for tenants interested in the retail space at Janie's.
