TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 89 new coronavirus deaths Friday along with 3,815 new cases of the virus.

Friday marked Florida's 16th day of daily positivity under 10 percent while officials reported a new statewide positive case total of 615,806, up from 611,991 cases a day earlier.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held an aviation roundtable in Fort Lauderdale on Friday to discuss the effect the virus has had on air travel.

"The fact of the matter is the airplanes have just not been vectors where you've seen a lot of spread of the coronavirus," DeSantis said. "Part of that is because of what they do with the air filtration, what they do for cleanliness. Obviously, they do space people out. They have different mitigation measures in place."

Health officials said the daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.
