Construction of Costco at Westfield Sarasota Square Begins

Warehouse Club opening slated for summer 2012

Westfield Sarasota Square announced the start of construction of Costco. Slated to open in summer of 2012, on the southeast side of the shopping center, Costco will offer groceries, clothing and electronics to appliances, tire sales and installation, a pharmacy, optical services and much more.

“The New Year will deliver exciting changes at Westfield Sarasota Square,” said Todd Beckwith, Marketing Director, Westfield Sarasota Square. “The introduction of Costco illustrates Westfield’s aim to introduce new goods and services into the mall – investing in new elements, new energy, new conveniences and new choices for Westfield shoppers. 

The addition of Costco follows a $50 million revitalization at Westfield Sarasota Square, which included a full interior renovation. The center also added a 12-screen AMC Theatre, new dining selections and 25,000 square feet of new retail along with the introduction of enhanced consumer amenities such as a Family Lounge and a special family dining area in the Food Court, perfectly suited to the number of families who call Sarasota home. 

In addition to delivering an abundance of new choices to Westfield Sarasota Square, Costco will also bring new jobs to the area. In addition to jobs related to the store’s construction, it is estimated that 200 new jobs will be created when the store opens.
