Asolo Repertory Theatre Receives $70,000 Grant

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation award will help fund the Sarasota troupe's 2017-18 season.

SARASOTA, FL – One of the area’s largest charitable foundations helped fund a major portion Asolo Repertory Theatre’s 2017-18 season.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation awarded a $70,000 Arts Appreciation Grant to Asolo Repertory Theatre. According to the theater troupe, the grant provide essential support for its upcoming season, “Staging Our World,” scheduled to kick off Tuesday, Nov. 14 with “Evita.”

“Since its inception, Gulf Coast Community Foundation has been one of Asolo Rep’s greatest champions in all of our endeavors,” said Linda DiGabriele, the managing director of Asolo Rep. “Gulf Coast’s latest grant in support of our 2017-18 season will give us the confidence to make bold choices on the stage and to produce Broadway-caliber work to engage and inspire our audience members from Sarasota and beyond.”

The grant will help fund actors, musicians, sets, costumes, props and technical support. The grant also will be used to help provide theatrical education to artists, designers and actors in the Sarasota area.

“The arts are a differentiator that set our region apart, and Asolo Repertory Theatre is one of the cornerstone arts organizations here in our community,” said Dr. Mark Pritchett, the president and CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “Gulf Coast’s grant investment reflects Asolo Rep’s vital contributions to both our economy and our exceptional quality of life.”

Gulf Coast Community Foundation is a public charity created through the sale of the Venice Hospital in 1995. It is the philanthropic home to more than 650 families who have established charitable funds through the foundation. CGCF has invested more than $260 million in grants for health and human services, civic and economic development, education, arts and culture, and the environment.
