Casey Key Water Shut Off, Bridges Locked Down: Hurricane Idalia

Bridges throughout Sarasota County are closed to marine traffic and the county has shut down water service to Casey Key during Idalia.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — As Sarasota County braces for Hurricane Idalia, the county has taken several precautionary measures, officials said.

Water service to Casey Key was shut off beginning at 1 p.m., Sarasota County Utilities said. Residents won’t have water for use until after the storm has passed.

The water will remain on for other barrier islands in the county during Idalia.

Local moveable bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway throughout the county have been locked down by Sarasota County Public Works staff in anticipation of tropical storm-force winds.

The bridges affected are at Manasota Beach Road, Venice Avenue, Albee Road and Blackburn Point Road.

The Florida Department of Transportation is also locking its bridges within Sarasota County at the Circus Bridge (South U.S. 41 on island of Venice), Hatchett Creek Bridge (North U.S. 41 on the island of Venice), Stickney Point Road, Siesta Drive and New Pass, the county said.

These bridges should be considered closed to marine traffic, but open to vehicular traffic.
