Coast Guard Rescues Distressed Turtle Near Longboat Pass
The Coast Guard rescued a loggerhead turtle Sunday.
The Coast Guard rescued a loggerhead turtle near Longboat Pass Inlet off of Sarasota, according to a news release.
A Coast Guard boat crew from Cortez Station was patrolling the area when a passing boater let crew members know about the distressed turtle, officials said.
"We don't get a chance to save wildlife often, but when we do this mission it's very rewarding." said Petty Officer 3rd Class Preston Humbard, crew member during the rescue.
The rescued turtle was taken back to Coast Guard Station Cortez. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officers came and got the turtle, officials said.
