Florida Coronavirus Update: 6,229 New Cases

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 6,229 new cases of the coronavirus cases Sunday as the state total rose to 532,806 cases from 526,577 a day earlier.

Florida health officials reported a total of 8,186 deaths Sunday, an increase of 77 deaths from the 8,109 deaths reported a day earlier. State health officials also reported another 129 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in the state.

Nineteen of Florida's 67 counties reported 83 new deaths Sunday (state health officials reported 77). That compares with 182 new deaths Saturday, 180 new deaths Friday, 122 new deaths Thursday, 221 new deaths Wednesday (health officials reported 220), 245 new deaths on Tuesday, 74 new deaths Monday and 63 new deaths last Sunday.

  • Broward County reported 14 new deaths.
  • Brevard County reported nine new deaths.
  • Bay County reported six new cases.
  • Volusia County reported four new deaths.
  • Collier County reported three new deaths.
  • Pinellas County reported three new deaths.
  • St. Lucie County reported three new deaths.
  • Martin County reported two new deaths.
  • Okeechobee County reported two new deaths.
  • Palm Beach County reported two new deaths.
  • Indian River County reported one new death.
  • Jackson County reported one new death.
  • Lake County reported one new death.
  • Manatee County reported one new death.
  • Orange County reported one new death.
  • Pasco County reported one new death.
  • Sarasota County reported one new death.

Florida reported a statewide positive rate of 13.35 percent based on 3,991,826tests as of Sunday.

The state reported 30,505 total hospitalizations up from 30,251 total hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 254 new hospitalizations over the previous day.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 132,461 cases of the virus as of Saturday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 62,268 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 37,020 cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 32,587 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 31,719 cases.
