Pedestrian Killed on Tamiami Trail
Sarasota Police Department needs help identifying the victim after fingerprint tests and other means turned up unsuccessful.

are asking for help trying to identify a pedestrian that was killed on Tamiami Trail Sunday night.
Police say the pedestrian was attempting to cross Tamiami Trail at about 6:45 p.m. just south of Bee Ridge Road, near Bay Road, and was hit by a southbound pickup truck.

Emergency personnel responded however the pedestrian died at the scene, police said.
The pedestrian had no identification and attempts to identify the victim through fingerprints have not been successful, police said.

The victim is described as a white, male, salt and pepper hair color, approximately 50-years old. The victim was carrying a backpack. The backpack’s contents included toilet paper, leading to speculation that the victim may have been homeless.
The pickup truck stopped, remained on the scene, and the driver has been interviewed, police said.
The crash investigation is continuing.

The accident happened at Bay Road and Tamiami Trail, and according to a witness who contacted Patch, a sheet could be seen covering a body, as the witness left .
That was around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the witness.
Police say they are currently investigating the crash and expect to provide more details soon, but could not confirm the fatality.
