Sandbags Available As More Rain, Flooding Expected: Sarasota County
With heavy rains and flooding forecast in Sarasota County, sandbags are being made available to residents, officials said.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — With continued heavy rains forecast over the next several days, self-service sandbag locations will be opened to residents Friday, Sarasota County said in a news release.
A flood advisory was issuedin the county Thursday after 2 to 4 inches of rain fell, WTSP reported.
There’s a flood warning in place Friday for the Myakka River at the Myakka River State Park, the National Weather Service said.

The main road at the park floods when the river hits 8 feet. As of 9 a.m., the river was at 7.7 feet.
The river is expected to rise to a crest of 8.2 feet early Sunday morning, NWS said.

Sandbags can be filled at the following locations Friday:
- Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
- South County Fleet Services, 4571 SR 776/Englewood Road, Venice
- Ed Smith Stadium (east lot), 2700 12th Street, Sarasota.
Bags and sand will be provided while supplies last. People should bring their own shovels.
There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.
