Before, during and after Hurricane Ian, 14 schools served as evacuation centers, according to the superintendent. District administrators, food and nutrition staff, and bus drivers helped to operate these shelters.
As of Tuesday, two schools continue to operate as evacuation shelters — Venice High School and Tatum Elementary School, Asplen added. Both will close Friday at the end of the day.
Four schools — Glenallen, Lamarque, Toledo Blade and Southside — are still without power as of Tuesday, he said.
Since Friday, facility management and maintenance teams have been working at all district schools to assess, clean and repair damages, which have included sewage and plumbing, roofing, power outages, and flooding issues.
The district will share all Hurricane Ian-related updates at www.sarasotacountyschools.net/hurricane.
