Homeruns & Heroes To Celebrate Tampa’s Baseball History

The event will include displays of Major Leaguers like Al Lopez, Wade Boggs and Gary Sheffield.

TAMPA, FL – For more than 100 years, baseball has been a tie that binds throughout the Tampa community. Now, Tampa’s baseball history will be celebrated in Ybor City.

The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House, along with the Ybor City Museum Society, will host Homeruns & History, a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place in Ybor City’s Centennial Park, 1800 E. 8th Ave. in Tampa.

Homeruns & History will feature appearances by Major League Baseball alumni, games, raffles, auctions, prizes, book signings, vendors as well as a hotdog eating contest. There will also be other baseball-inspired food.

To honor the history of baseball in Tampa, Homeruns & History will feature an outdoor exhibit will be on display honoring some of Tampa’s iconic baseball players from around the community, including Al Lopez, Wade Boggs, Lou Piniella, Tony La Russa, Tino Martinez and Gary Sheffield.

Homeruns & History was funded in part by an Ybor City Development event co-sponsorship grant. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tampa Baseball Museum at Al Lopez House.
