Jesuit Athletes Earn Honors On, Off Field

Jesuit High School was honored by the Florida High School Athletic Association for its students' overall achievements.

TAMPA, FL – It was another banner year for Jesuit High School athletes, whether it was in competition or in the classroom.

Jesuit earned the No. 2 spot in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s All-Sports Award rankings for boys in Class 6A in 2016-17 and the top spot for boys in Class 6A in the FHSAA’s Academic Team Champion standings.

On the field, Jesuit teams finished No. 1 among all boys sports programs in the Tampa Bay area, while also finishing at No. 6 among all Florida schools in all classifications.

The following efforts helped Jesuit earn second place in the All-Sports Award rankings:

  • Baseball, state runner-up
  • Football, district and regional champions
  • Swimming, district and regional champions
  • Tennis, district and regional champions
  • Golf, district champion and regional runner-up
  • Soccer, district champion and regional runner-up
  • Basketball, district champion

In the past four years, Jesuit has claimed district titles in 39 of 48 opportunities.

Off the field, the Tigers finished with 71 points in the ATC scoring system, which ranks team GPA within each sport. Jesuit easily outperformed the boys program at Orlando Bishop Moore, which finished in second with 46 points.

Jesuit also finished in first place in the ATC standings in 2015-16 when the Tigers were in Class 5A.

Six Tigers teams finished in first or second place in the ATC standings, which helped Jesuit to this year’s top spot.

The following efforts helped Jesuit earn the No. 1 spot:

  • Basketball, first place
  • Football, first place
  • Wrestling, first place
  • Soccer, second place
  • Bowling, second place
  • Track and field, second place

Among Jesuit’s 12 sports programs, soccer finished with the best team GPA with a 3.622, edging out bowling (3.620) and swimming (3.600).
