Motorcyclist Seriously Injured In Lutz Crash Saturday Morning: Police

Police say a woman was distracted while checking her GPS and collided with the motorcycle; the motorcyclist was thrown during the crash.

LUTZ, FL — A Tampa motorcyclist, 64, was seriously injured in a Lutz crash Saturday morning, police said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a New Port Richey woman, 46, was driving a Honda Accord southbound on US-41 in the center lane while approaching Newberger Road. The motorcyclist, on a Harley Davidson, was traveling in the center lane ahead of the woman, police said.

Distracted while checking her GPS, the woman failed to slow down; she then overtook and collided with the motorcycle, police said.

The rider was ejected from his motorcycle upon impact, while the sedan came to a controlled stop, police said. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, police said.
