Munchies, Subway, Wendy's Receive Warnings From State Inspectors

A live insect in the kitchen and food stored at unsafe temperatures are two violations found recently by state inspectors this month.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A live insect found in the kitchen and food stored at unsafe temperatures are two of the violations that Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found recently in Tampa-area restaurants.

Note: Most restaurants that receive warnings for violations correct the problems and pass subsequent inspections.

  • Munchies, 11208 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., Seffner, was cited for 12 violations on Aug. 2. They included four high-priority violations, including a stop sale placed on food stored in ice used for drinks, and another stop sale placed on pizza that was not time stamped for proper disposal.
  • Subway, 7807 Palm River Road, Tampa, received warnings for 21 violations on Aug, 2, five of which were high-priority violations. They include two live, flying insects found by dry storage shelves; toxic substances (glass cleaner and soap) stored over soda stored in plastic bags; and roast beef, ham, cheese and other foods stored at unsafe temperatures.
  • Wendy's, 6620 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Tampa, was cited for 21 violations on Aug. 21, including six high-priority violations. They include a live insect found in the kitchen; a stop sale order issued on salt stored in a cardboard box; no hot water available for employees needing to wash their hands; a slicer blade not properly sanitized; and milk stored at an unsafe temperature (it was moved to another reach-in cooler).

The inspectors made note of six Hillsborough County restaurants that passed inspections last week without any violations, including 3 Coins Diner, 7410 Nebraska Ave., Tampa; Mango's Restaurant At Embassy Suites, 10220 Palm River Drive, Brandon; Cafe Delanie, 3016 U.S. Hwy 301 N #100, Tampa; Culver's of Riverview, 10721 Big Bend Road, Riverview; Stones Throw, 304 W. 7th Ave., Tampa; and Sarge's BBQ at Noho, 1500 W.
