4 Injured, 1 Dead In St. Pete Car Crash

Police say alcohol was involved in the rear-end collision, which caused a chain reaction.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Police are investigating a fatal crash at the intersection of 38th Avenue North and 49th Street North, according to a Sunday night press release. Police say alcohol was involved in the accident which resulted in four injured and one dead.

A taxi headed south on 49th Street North rear-ended another car stopped at the intersection, police say, causing a chain reaction. Driving the taxi was David Yancey, 47, with passenger Heather Scozzaro, 40.

The taxi hit a Chevrolet Tahoe, pushing it into a Ford Escape and a Chevrolet SS, police say. The Ford was pushed into a Kia Optima, which then hit a Hyundai Santa Fe.

The drivers of the Tahoe and Escape were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Yancey and Scozzaro, not wearing seat belts, were both seriously injured and taken to the hospital, where Scozzaro died, police say.

Charges are pending, according to the release.
