5 Places We Were Sad to See Close in 2011

Times are tough and local business owners know it all too well; wishing the best of luck and greetings of thanks to those who shut their doors this year.

  1. : Veteran coffee shop, The Globe, announced their . After 12 years of loyal customers, open mic nights and darn good coffee- The Globe will stop spinning. The doors will close for good on December 21, 2011.
  2. : The popular brownie shop closed in early November, after announcing their future plans. The "Queen" assured customers that "we aren't leaving yet!" on the Royal Brownie Co's blog. Although the retail location at 4 6th Street North is closed, brownie lovers can still order baked goods through the holidays by messaging the royal family via Facebook.
  3. : After opening in the summer of 2010, Emilio's has shut down. The bistro/bakery, which was located at 437 Central Ave., was best known for its wide variety of meal options as well as a hefty, coffee drink selection. Locals will miss the friendly servers and fresh products from this location.
  4. Paddy Burke's: This Irish pub, which was located at 100 4th Street S., opened back in '09 with fresh ambition and good taste. The menu boasted traditional Irish cuisine like the Scotch Eggs and Guinness Gravy. Drink options were endless and live music blared on a nightly basis. Bar hoppers and pub lovers alike will certainly miss the venue known as Paddy Burke's.
  5. : The southern infused restaurant known as Savannah's Cafe . After almost four years of success, the venue closed down due to the economy's downward spiral. In a statement on the restaurant's website, owner John Warren said, "Times are what they are. Nevertheless, I've been blessed."
