Driver Pulls In Front Of Hyundai At St. Pete Intersection, 1 Killed: Police

St. Petersburg police investigated a fatal crash that happened Sunday on 54th Avenue South.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 97-year-old St. Petersburg man died Monday following a Sunday crash he had been involved in with a Ruskin man Sunday on 54th Avenue South, St. Pete police said.

Thomas Franklin Thompson, Jr., drove a 2016 Subaru SUV southbound on Dolphin Cay Lane when he did not yield at a 54th Avenue South stop sign, according to investigators. Thompson's car drove in front of a 2011 Hyundai car driven by a 20-year-old Ruskin man headed westbound on 54th Avenue South in the center lane.

Thompson was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for minor injuries, but died at the hospital Monday, deputies said. The driver of the Hyundai didn't experience any injuries.
