Big Brothers Big Sisters In Pursuit of “100 Men in 100 Days”

Through September 8^th Men are Encouraged to Start Something^TM for Local Boys

 A campaign that started June 1 and ends Sept 8 encourages men to become part of the “100 Men in 100 Days” campaign and volunteer with the organization.

The campaign has resulted in the submission of 36 applications from male volunteers. Many more men are needed, as there are still more than 200 boys on the waiting list who are hoping to be matched with a positive role model.   

While Big Brothers Big Sisters accepts volunteers from all walks of life, there is a greater need for male and minority mentors.  More than 74% percent of children waiting for a “Big” are boys, but only 34 out of every 100 inquiries to volunteer come from men. 

Now more than ever, Big Brothers Big Sisters needs men to step up and help kids.  Men can serve as Big Brothers in the Community Based Program or the School Based Program.  Becoming part of a "Big Couple" with a spouse or significant other is another option in the Community Based Program. 

Men also have the option of joining our "Sports Buddies" program, with access to free tickets to games as well as exclusive events.

Mentoring is one of the most rewarding, enjoyable and simple things a volunteer can do.  For as little as one hour a week, volunteers can add joy to the life of a child, and ultimately, contribute greatly to his or her potential.  Together, “Bigs” and “Littles” do simple, everyday activities, such as going to a sporting event, playing a game, going to a park, or watching movies.
