USF St. Petersburg Hosts Three RNC events

The University of South Florida St. Petersburg will hold three events during the week of the Republican National Convention featuring two prominent speakers and a TV watch party on the final night of the RNC. All three events are free, open to the public and at Harbor Hall Gallery, 1000 3^rd St South.

1. Journalist and author Michael Grunwald speaks Tuesday, Aug 28, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. about his new book, “The New Deal: The Hidden Story of Change in the Obama Era.” Grunwald, a senior correspondent for Time magazine, received the George Polk Award and the Society of Environmental Journalists award for in-depth reporting. 2. Grover Norquist, conservative activist and founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, speaks Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the American political process. Americans for Tax Reform sponsored the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge’’ signed by an overwhelming majority of Republican members of Congress. 3. TV watch party for the last night of the convention will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is sponsored by the USFSP Office of International Affairs and The International Council of the Tampa Bay Region. For more information call (727) 873-4985. Judithanne Scourfield McLauchlan, Ph.D., an associate professor of political science at USFSP, will moderate a discussion with audience members.

Young political leaders, elected officials and media from more than 25 countries will observe the RNC proceedings under the sponsorship of The International Council of the Tampa Bay and are expected to attend all three events.
