Bicyclist Hit, Killed On 1st Avenue North: St. Pete Police

A bicyclist who traveled the wrong direction on a St. Pete street was hit and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, detectives said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Detectives are investigating the death of a bicyclist who was hit and killed on Sunday at 1:39 a.m. on First Avenue North, St. Pete police said.

The victim, 37-year-old Chad Bennett, was riding a bicycle in the wrong direction on a one-way street without any lights on his bicycle, investigators said.

A Toyota Rav4 hit the victim as the driver turned from Second Street North onto First Avenue North at a green light, authorities said.

The bicyclist died at Bayfront Hospital, law enforcement officials said.
