Blue Jays Pitcher Hit in Face Releases Statement from Bayfront

J.A. Happ has been upgraded from fair to good condition after being hit with a line drive in the face during Tuesday night's game against the Rays.

Tuesday night's Tampa Bay Rays game against the Toronto Blue Jays turned scary when a line drive off the bat of Desmond Jennings struck Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ in the face in the second inning.

Happ fell to the turf at Tropicana Field and held his hands over his face while teammates and trainers rushed to the mound.

For more than six minutes, Happ was face down on the turf before team trainers and EMS carted him off the field and to Bayfront Medical Center. Happ was conscious throughout the duration of the incident and briefly waved to the fans while leaving the field.
