Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Investigating Mentally Disabled Man's Cause Of Death

The medical examiner's office matched the identify of a mentally disabled person to human remains found in St. Pete Jan. 28.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Human remains found off Interstate 275 at the Howard Frankland Bridge in late January have been identified as a St. Petersburg man missing since 2016, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

St. Petersburg police began investigating the discovery of an unidentified body on Jan. 28, according to officers.

The sheriff's office identified the body Tuesday as 34-year-old Rang Truong, who walked away from his brother's car at Derby Lane, 10490 Gandy Blvd., St. Petersburg, Dec. 27, 2016.

Deputies searched for him in that area the day he went missing but could not find him. Law enforcement officials listed him as a missing/endangered person because he lived with intellectual disabilities, the sheriff's office said.

The medical examiner's office matched the human remains to Truong by using dental records.

The cause of death is unknown as of Tuesday, deputies said.
