Body Recovered from Water Near Mahaffey ID'd

St. Petersburg Police have identified 73-year-old George Lee Babec as the man whose body was found floating in the water Thursday evening near the Mahaffey Theater. 

According to police, they are having trouble locating next-of-kin for Babec and are asking for the public's help to get in touch with the family. 

Babec, of 540 2nd Ave. S., was found around 5:15 p.m. next to the seawall. 

Mike Puetz, police public information office, said there were no signs of trauma or "no suggestions any kind foul play."

He said the Medical Examiner will determine how long Babec was in the water, but Puetz said it was not very long.
