Cold Weather Shelters Open In St. Pete

St. Pete residents who have no place to keep warm on Tuesday's cold night can stay inside at a local shelter.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg will experience one of its coldest nights this year on Tuesday with temperatures dropping to 44 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

St. Pete residents who have no place to go can seek warmth at cold weather shelters.

The Pinellas County Homeless Leadership Alliance and Learning Empowered will open the shelters between 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and will accept guests throughout the night.

At 6 a.m. Wednesday, the shelters will close.

Officials said guests will be provided a warm, safe place to spend the night and will be informed if the shelters will open for other cold nights.

The following St. Pete locations are open for adults:

  • St. Petersburg Northwest Presbyterian Church, 6330 54th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, (727) 544-4551, Capacity: 50
  • Salvation Army, 1400 4th Street S., St. Petersburg, (727) 822-4954, Capacity: 25, Hours are 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • The Turning Point, 1810 5th Avenue N., St. Petersburg,(727) 823-7811, Capacity: 12

Families with children will be placed in family shelters on cold nights, if space is available. Families should call 2-1-1, Tampa Bay Cares, Inc., for information about family shelters.
