1 Dead In I-275 Crash

A Friday morning multi-vehicle crash on I-275 has led to the death of one motorist.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Update April 14, 12:12 p.m.: The Florida Highway Patrol has announced that one of the drivers involved in a Friday morning crash on Interstate 275 near Fourth Street has died. Further information about the multi-vehicle wreck that closed northbound lanes along the Howard Frankland Bridge for several hours is not available at this time.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 near Fourth Street Friday morning. A multi-vehicle, serious injury crash has forced the closing of the road for northbound travelers.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle hit a furniture dolly that was in the road around 4:41 a.m. April 14. That vehicle’s driver lost control and hit a RV. The RV was redirected into the center median barrier wall and hit a pickup truck. The truck, an email from the patrol said, then overturned.

Serious injuries were involved in the crash.

The patrol said traffic is being diverted off onto the Ulmerton/Roosevelt exits.

Further information is not yet available. The patrol said motorists should expect delays.
