Parent University

Pinellas County Schools and the City of St. Petersburg have partnered to hold Parent University on Saturday, March 5, at the USF St. Petersburg Campus Activity Center. Parent University is an educational program that helps all adults—parents, grandparents, guardians, and everyone else who cares about the children and teens in our community—navigate and access resources in our schools and communities. The half-day workshop is a partnership between the school system and the City of St. Petersburg designed to better prepare parents of all school-age students.

Opening and closing ceremonies will feature Pinellas County Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Julie Janssen, Deputy Superintendent James Madden and St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster. The keynote speaker is Dr. Shelly Stewart, a noted successful businessman, radio personality and dynamic public speaker who overcame poverty and literacy on his way to success and fame.  Following the speakers, participants will engage in three breakout sessions of their choosing. Breakout sessions include strands for both elementary and secondary student interests:

  • Academic help for struggling students
  • After school and summer city services for children and teens
  • Career awareness
  • Counseling and social services
  • Kindergarten readiness
  • Money for college
  • Navigating the school system
  • Pinellas Virtual School offerings
  • Struggles with teen behaviors

All participants will receive a light breakfast, handouts from the city and school district and have the opportunity to win door prizes.
