Driver Of Pickup Truck Involved In Fatal Wreck Cooperating With St. Pete Detectives

Detectives with the St. Petersburg Police Department investigated a fatal crash Tuesday night on northbound 34th Street.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — When a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck made a U-turn on 34th Street North near 13th Avenue North Tuesday night, a 1980 Pontiac Sports car headed through the light at the intersection, police said.

Both vehicles crashed into each other, investigators said.

Vito Mckie, 59, driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the crash location, medical staff said. The driver of the pick-up truck cooperated with officers during the investigation. A passenger in the truck experienced minor injuries, according to officers.

Lanes of 34th Street North at 13th Avenue North will be closed for several hours as officers investigate the fatal crash, a St. Pete police news release said. The crash occurred at this intersection shortly after 6 p.m., according to investigators.

One driver was pronounced dead at the crash location, detectives said.

Drivers should seek an alternate route, officers said.
