Guess Who's the New Entrepreneur of the Year?

He's being recognized for "shaking up the local banking industry."

C1 Bank CEO Trevor Burgess – a downtown St. Pete resident – is the new Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in Florida.

C1 Bank's headquarters are in downtown St. Petersurg, at 100 5th St. South, on the first floor of the Tampa Bay Times building.

Burgess is CEO of the bank and its holding company. In accepting the award, Burgess thanked some other locally known business leaders for their mentoring and help in his career:

  • Bill Sedgeman, the founder of Community Bank of Manatee, the first bank acquired to make up what is today C1 Bank.  
  • Steve Ells, the founder of Chipotle.
  • Marcelo Lima, Burgess's business partner and friend.

"C1 Bank is being built by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs," Burgess said, according to PR News Wire.

C1 is noted for its innovations. Burgess described the bank as "modern, collaborative, service oriented, fast and fun."

When the bank moved its headquarters to downtown St. Pete in 2012, Burgess noted: "The headquarters is unlike any other in Tampa Bay and perhaps unlike any other bank headquarters in the world. We have no offices, not even for the executives. Instead, we work from interchangeable desks to maximize collaboration, speed of decision making and communication."
