KAARD Event Boosts Funds for the Biggs Family

From VIP pit bull adoptables to live music and a silent auction, the Biggs family celebrated the lives of their lost loved ones on Saturday night.

KAARD stands for the "Biggs Five:" Kilo, Angel, Alexus, Romeo and Dre. The Biggs Five were the five pit bulls that were . 

During that fateful event before Valentine's Day, Junior and Renae Biggs not only lost their "kids", but also their home. 

On Saturday, the KAARD event was held at Quaker Steak and Lube in Clearwater to help the Biggs family.

"There have been a lot of people we do know and a lot of people we don't know," said Renae Biggs, during the KAARD event. 

Supporters poured through the entrance of Quaker Steak and Lube on Saturday night to encourage the family and donate what they could. Raffles, a silent auction and a T-shirt stand were among the ways to raise money. donated a suite for a concert that was valued at more than $2,000 while other contributions came from local restaurants and shops.

Beloved band, Glass Half Full, provided entertainment while Mystical Moments DJ, Chuck Eckhart, emceed the event.

Due to the Biggs' personal connection to the animal world, four rescue organizations were represented at the event: Florida Big Dog Rescue, Rugaz Rescue, Hillsborough County Animal Services and Pibbles to the Rescue. Each group brought one adoptable pet in hopes of finding a forever home.

Local celebrity and radio host, Navaho (Wild 94.1 FM), was on hand with her own pit bull friend. "I have a pit bull and they are great dogs," said Navaho, during her address to the crowd.

The event raised well over $2,000 for the Biggs. "The turnout has been awesome," said Renae Biggs. "It is really a lot more than we expected."
