The League of Women Voters in St. Petersburg is hosting a boxing and self-defense workshop Saturda afternoon in the Grand Central District.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The League of Women Voters is hosting its first boxing and self-defense workshop on Saturday, 1 to 2 p.m.

Avid boxer Lindsay Polega, the league’s vice president, realized it could be a great community-building activity.

“I was hearing from a lot of league members that they’re frustrated and I heard several times (from people) ‘I could really hit something right now,’” she told Patch. “And I would be like, ‘I know a place.’”

Saturday’s workshop is open to those at all levels, especially beginners, for introductory-level self-defense and basic boxing.

“We want to try to help people feel a little more confidence in themselves despite the world feeling a bit scary and out of control,” Polega said.

The space can accommodate up to 30 people. Cost is $15 at the door. Those interested can sign up online here.
