5th-Grader's Pet Pal Fundraiser Today
This Saturday, 10-year-old Gray Maloney will attempt to raise $500 for the no-kill shelter in St. Petersburg.
Last year, Gray Maloney wanted to raise money for , the no-kill shelter in St. Petersburg, so he had the idea to do a “Bandana and Treat Sale” in front of his house in the Old Northeast.
The event was such a success in this neighborhood of dog lovers that Gray raised $450 for the shelter.
“I love animals,” said Gray, who is a dog owner himself. This weekend, he's determied to top his total from 2010: Gray's goal is $500 for charity.
Grays said he likes to donate to Pet Pal, because they are a no-kill organization that focuses on saving dogs and cats from over-crowded shelters where they would otherwise be euthanized.

Gray let his classmates at Canterbury School of Florida know about the sale, so they can either stop by or come over and help him raise funds. He also is spreading the message to his neighbors in the Old Notheast.
Along with his parents, Dale and Eileen, Gray makes the all-natural dog and cat treats, and he has a variety of bandanas up for grabs. The bandanas are cut and ready to go, but the treats will be prepared Friday, so they will be fresh for four-legged customers.
Treat flavors are peanut butter, pumpkin and apple cinnamon, to name a few. The bandanas vary as well, from tie-dyed to festive holiday designs.
Gray’s generosity has not gone unnoticed. He won the Humanitarian Award at his elementary school last year for his efforts raising money for Pet Pal.
Pricing is reasonable for these made-with-love delights, ranging from $1-$3 for bandanas, depending on the size of the pup. Treats are $3 and $5 per bag.
The sale is from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at 315 19th Ave. NE.
