ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An 18-year-old was arrested for the Tuesday night double shooting of a man and his 10-year-old nephew in south St. Petersburg, authorities said.

The shooting happened in the 1400 block of 15th Street South because of a conflict between two groups on the street, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

When Antwon Jones fired shots at the other group around 7 p.m., the bullets hit two bystanders, a 40-year-old man and his nephew, who were outside playing basketball, the agency said.

The boy was seriously injured, but was in stable condition Wednesday morning. His uncle was treated and released from the hospital.

Jones was charged with two counts of attempted felony murder, delinquent in possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (ecstasy and cocaine).
